World Otter Day

World Otter Day takes place on the last Wednesday in May each year. It was established to help draw attention to otters, celebrate them and raise awareness and support for their conservation globally.

Guadeloupe Abolition of Slavery Day

This day commemorates the anniversary of Guadeloupe’s obolition of slavery on 27th May 1848. This was after a petition by Victor Schoelcher on 27th April 1848 finally ended slavery. A month later total abolition became effective. It honours the country’s long struggle with slavery and the decree that granted enslaved people freedom.
