This day is celebrated on the anniversary of the Battle of Arica, a battle in the War of the Pacific between Chile and Peru.
The Battle was won by Chile after it launched an assault on the city of Arica, a port. The defending Peruvian troops under the command of Colonel Francisco Bolognesi died as heroes. Peru remember the heroic stances of those people, while the Chilean Army honours the anniversary as Infantry Day, to commemorate the heroism of their infantryman.
