Victory Day is a public holiday celebrated in Malta, and commemorates the end of three historical sieges made on the island. These were the Great Siege of Malta in 1565, the Siege of Valletta by the French Blockade in 1800, and the Siege of Malta during World War 2 in 1943. The day also coincides with the day below, which is celebrated in some of the villages. There is a traditional regatta featuring boat races in the Grand Harbour.
