Sri Lanka Independence Day

This day commemorates the country’s political independence from Britain in 1948. It is celebrated through a flag-hoisting ceremony, dances, parades and performances. The main celebration takes place in its capital Colombo, where the President raises the national flag and delivers a nationally televised speech.
