Portugal Day

This is the National Day of Portugal, commemorating the death of Luis de Camoes on 10th June 1580. He wrote Os Lusiadas which is Portugal’s national epic poem celebrating Portuguese history and achievements, and according to folklore, he saved his poem by swimming with one arm above water. The date of his birth was unknown, so his date of his death was celebrated instead.
