Kazakhstan Independence Day

This is the national holiday of the country and is a two day celebration over the 16th and 17th December. It marks the independence of Kazakhstan in 1991 following the collapse of the Soviet Union. It voted in favour of independence in March that year, but was the last country to declare independence, meaning for four days it was the entire Soviet Union. The day is marked by festivities in the presidential palace and many Kazakhs dress in traditional clothes.
