20th July is when the Columbian Declaration of Independence was signed in 1810 in Santa Fe de Bogota. It resulted in the establishment of a Junta de Santa Fe that day, and resulted in the creation of the Republic of Columbia.

Nelson Mandela Day is celebrating the life of Nelson Mandela on 18th July each year. The day was officially declared by the United Nations in November 2009. Nelson Mandela was an influential figure in South Africa. The website for the day is here.

It was established in 1989 by the Governining Council of the United Nations Development Programme, and aims to increase people’s awareness on issues such as Gender Equality, Poverty, Maternal Health and Human Rights.
