International Friendship Day

This celebration occurs on different dates in different countries, but the first date proposed was 30th July 1958 by the World Friendship Crusade. On 27th April 2011 the General Assembly of the United Nations declared 30th July as official International Friendship Day after may years of lobbying by the World Friendship Crusade.

Fiestas Patrias

The Fiestas Patrias peruanas are celebrations of Peru’s independence from the Spanish Empire. They officially consist of two days with 28th July commemorating its independence won by Jose de San Martin, and the 29th July honouring the Armed Forces and the National Police of Peru.

Maldives Independence Day

The Maldives had their independence agreed in 1965 from the United Kingdom. An agreement was signed of behalf of His Majesty the Sultan and Her Majesty the Queen to end the British responsibility of defence and external affairs of the Maldives, meaning it achieved full political independence.

Liberia Independence Day

Liberia signed their Declaration of Independence on this day in 1847 to announce that the Commonwealth of Liberia, a colony founded and controlled by America, was to become an independent state.

Puerto Rico Constitution Day

Today celebrates the constitution of Puerto Rico which was approved on 3rd July 1952 and signed into law by Governor Luis Munoz Marin in the same year. The government of Puerto Rico hold a commemoration every year.

Egypt Revolution Day

Today is Revolution Day in Egypt, which marks the anniversary of the Egyptian Revolution in 1952, which led to the declaration of the modern republic of Egypt. It is considered the national day of Egypt. Annual celebrations begin on the evening before, and involve military parades and televised concerts.
