This day celebrates the independence of the then Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina from the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1992. A vote had been taken between 28th February and 1st March 1992 for a independent Bosnia, and 99.7% voted in favour. They were accepted by its Parliament on 6th March, and then recognised as an independent state on 7th April. The Parliament then decided on 28th February 1995 that 1st March would be a national holiday and its Independence Day.
