20th July is when the Columbian Declaration of Independence was signed in 1810 in Santa Fe de Bogota. It resulted in the establishment of a Junta de Santa Fe that day, and resulted in the creation of the Republic of Columbia.

Nelson Mandela Day is celebrating the life of Nelson Mandela on 18th July each year. The day was officially declared by the United Nations in November 2009. Nelson Mandela was an influential figure in South Africa. The website for the day is here.

Today is the day the South Korea proclaimed its constitution in 1948, the date being deliberately chosen to be on the same date as the founding of the Joseon dynasty.

Today marks the anniversary of the declaration of the independence for Slovakia in 1992.

Today is World Population Day, which seeks to raise awareness of global population issues. It was established in 1989 by the Governining Council of the United Nations Development Programme, and aims to increase people’s awareness on issues such as Gender Equality, Poverty, Maternal Health and Human Rights.
