Holidays on 6th August

Bolivia Republic Day

This day marks 195 years since the Republic of Bolivia was proclaimed in 1825 after 16 years of war, which started in the city of Sucre on 25th May 1809.

Jamaica Independence Day

Once World War 2 came to a close, decolonisation started to happen rapidly across the world. The British Government and local politicians began a long transition from a crown colony into an independent state. On 19th July 1962 the Parliament of the United Kingdom passed the Jamaica Independence Act, granting independence from 6th August with The Queen as Head of State. The Union Jack was lowered and replaced by the Jamaican Flag, and Princess Margaret opened the first session of the Parliament of Jamaica on behalf of The Queen.
