Cayman Islands Constitution Day

This holiday is celebrated on the first Monday in July, and celebrates the first written constitution of the Cayman Islands on 4th July 1959. This constitution granted women the right to vote and removed its political dependence on Jamaica.

Comoros Independence Day

Today celebrates when Comoros declared independence from France on 6th July 1975, after an agreement was made with the French in 1973.

Malawi Independence Day

Today commemorates Malawi’s independence from Great Britain in 1966, after over 80 years of trying to gain independence.

Kupala Night

This is celebrated over the evening of 6-7 July, celebrating the Summer Solstice based on the old Julian Calendar, which would occur on the 23-24 June, around when the Summer Solstice took place. The night includes a number of Slavic rituals.

Statehood Day Lithuania

This day commemorates the coronation in 1253 of Mindaugas as the only King of Lithuania. However the exact day of this event is disputed, and today’s date was only formulated in 1989 based on the hypothesis of Edvardas Gudavicius.
