World Soil Day

This day is held to focus attention on the importance of healthy soil and to advocate for the sustainable management of soil resources. The 5th December was chosen because it is the official birthday of the late H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej, King of Thailand, who was one of the main proponents of this initiative. The day was designated in December 2013 by the UN General Assembly, and was celebrated for the first time the following year.
