Dia da Proclamação da República (Brazil)

This day celebrates the establishment of the First Brazilian Republic on this day in 1889 after a military coup d’etat. The proclamation took place in Rio de Janiero, when a group of military officials of the Brazilian Army, led by Mardhal Deodoro da Fonseca, staged a coup d’etat without the use of violence, and a provisional government was establised that same day.

Day of the German Speaking Commmunity

This is a public holiday for the German Speaking Community of Belgium but not celebrated elsewhere in the country. This community measures over 329 square miles in the Belgian region of Wallonia. Their flag is hoisted on the official buildings in the area.

King’s Feast

This has been celebrated in Belgium since 1886. Since 2001, the Belgian Federal Parliament has held a ceremony in honour of the King, in the presence of members of the Belgian Royal Family and other dignitaries. It is not a national public holiday, however, Federal government institutions are closed on this day.

Palestine Independence Day

This is a public holidays and commemorates the declaration of independence in 1988. After the end of World War Two, the Un adopted a Partition Plan for Mandatory Palestine recommending the creation of independent Arab and Jewish states and an internationalised Jerusalem. This partition plans were accepted by the Jews but declined by the Arabs. The day after the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, neighbouring Arab armies invaded the former British mandate of Palestine and fought the Israeli forces. The ensuing war saw the former British mandate of Palestine divided between Israel, Trans-Jordan and Egypt. Israel later captured the Gaza Strip and the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt, the West Bank from Jordan, and the Golan Heights from Syria in June 1967 during the six day war. On 15th November 1988, the Chairman of tHolidahe Palestine Liberation Organisation proclaimed the establishment of the State of Palestine.
