World Hippo Day
World Hippo Day reminds us to celebrate and value these mud loving animals so they are around for years to come. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) listed them as a vulnerable species in 2006, so this day encourages people to take action to prevent its extinction.
Serbia Statehood Day
This day commemorates the outbreak of the First Serbian Uprising in 1804, which evolved into the Serbian Revolution against the Ottoman rule. The revolution resulted in the recognition of Serbia by the Ottoman Empire. On the same day in 1835, during the rule of Milos Obrenovic, the first modern Serbian constitution was adopted in Kragujevac known as the Sretenje Constitution or Candlemas Constitution.
National Flag of Canada Day
This day commemorates the inauguration of the flag of Canada on this date in 1965. The day is marked by flying the flag, occasional public ceremonies and educational programs in schools. The flag was changed after a poll in 1958 showed that Canadians wanted a flag not based on the flag of Britain.
