Day of the Foundation of the Republic
Following the Liberation of Korea in 1945 by the Soviet and Amreican forces, a communist Soviet military regime was set up in the northern part of Korea. A new Supreme People’s Assembly was elected in August 1948, and on 3 September a new constitution was promulgated. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) was proclaimed on 9th September, so it is one of the most important holidays in the country. There are art performances, exhibitions, athletic events and reports are held. On Jubilee year, military parades on Kim II-sung Square take place with the leader of North Korea present.
Tajikstan Indepdendence Day
This is the main holiday of the country. In the late 1980s political processes began in the Soviet Union, as well as unrest in Eastern Europe, which led the process of declaring “state sovereignty” in the national parliaments of the republics. So sovereignty was announced in the Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic. On 24th August 1990 the Supreme Soviet of the Tajik SSR adopted the Declaration “On the Sovereignty of the Tajik SSR.” This was the first document on the path to independence. This was declared on 9th September 1991 after an extraordinary session of the Supreme Soviet. It gained independence formally on 26th December later that year in connection with the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
The traditional three-volley salute and fireworks annually take place in honour of the holiday, which is also a non-working day. Military parades of the Dushanbe Military Garrison on Dousti Square have been held every 5 years. An annual mass games are also usually held in the central stadium of Dushanbe, and families celebrate with traditional feasts, as well as decorating with flags.
