World Emoji Day
World Emoji Day is an unofficial holiday celebrating emojis set up by Jeremy Burge in 2014. This date was chosen as it is famously displayed on the Calendar Emoji.
Slovakia Independence Day
Today marks the anniversary of the declaration of the independence for Slovakia in 1992. This is a remembrance holiday that shouldn’t be confused with Republic Day, a national holiday that’s celebrated on 1st January after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia. There are events that commemorate the day including speeches and raising of the Slovakian Flag on public buildings.
South Korea Constitution Day
Today is the day the South Korea proclaimed its constitution in 1948, the date being deliberately chosen to be on the same date as the founding of the Joseon dynasty. Despite being liberated by the Allies on 15th August 1945 at the end of World War 2, it was caught in the middle of a Cold War power struggle between the Soviet Union and the United States. It took until 1948 for a democratic election for the National Assembly members to take place, and the elected members created a constitution and decided upon a presidential and unicameral system. It was formally adopted on 12th July and promulgated by South Korean President Syngman Rhee on 17th July.
