Coral Triangle Day

The day was established to celebrate and raise awareness of the ocean conservation and protection, especially on the Coral Triangle, the world’s epicentre of marine biodiversity. It was observed for the first time in 2012, in conjunction with World Oceans Day the day before. The Coral Triangle refers to a vast ocean expense located along the equator and confluence of the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans, containing 76% of all known coral species. It is celebrated through numerous activities such as beach clean-ups, sustainable seafood dishes and exhibitions, bazaars and beach parties.
