St George’s Day

Saint George’s Day is the feast day of Saint George, who is a patron saint of a number of countries, the main one being England. It is celebrated on 23rd April, the traditional date of the saint’s death in the Diocletianic Persecution. The date of religious observance can change when it is to close to Easter. According to the Church of England’s calendar, when it falls between Palm Sunday and the second Sunday of Easter inclusive, it moves to the Monday after the second Sunday of Easter. The Roman Catholic Church has a similar practice. It has grown in popularity in England recently as there are calls for it to be made a National or Public Holiday.
