Romania Independence Day
This day marks three important moments in the country’s history.
- The arrival of Carol of Hohenzollern Sigmaringen in Romania in 1866. He arrived in Bucharest and this became the National and Dynasty Day till 1947 when the communists came to power and wiped it off.
- On this day in 1877, Romania’s senate voted the Independence proclamation against the Ottoman Empire. The Independence War or the Russian-Turkish War of 1877-78 benefited from a decisive contribution of Romanian troops, under Carol’s command. The Berlin Congress of 1878 established Romania’s full independence from the Ottoman Empire.
- On this day in 1881, the Parliament voted the transformation of the country into the kingdom, and Prince Carol became its king.
Constitution Day of Micronesia
The constitution of the Federated States of Micronesia took effect on this day in 1979. It has been amended once in 1990.
