Holidays on 4th January

Myanmar Independence Day

This date celebrates its Declaration of Independence from British rule in 1948. In the 19th century following three Anglo-Burmese Wars, Burma was colonised by Britain. The Japanese collapsed the British Administration in the second World War as Burma was devastated by the War. When this finished, the Panglong Agreement was agreed with ethnic leaders that guaranteed the independence of Burma as an unified state. This happened on 4th January 1948 at 4.20 a.m.

World Braille Day

This day has been celebrated since 2019, and raises awareness of the importance of Braille as a means of communication in the full realisation of the human rights for blind and partially sighted people.
