Halloween is a celebration on the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows’ Day, and begins the observance of Allhallowtide, the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints, martyrs and all the faithful departed. There are many traditions for Halloween. The most popular are trick or treating, carving pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns, apple bobbing, visiting haunted attractions or places, telling scary stories, watching horror films and dressing up in costumes.
Some people think that many Halloween traditions have been influenced by ancient Celtic harvest festivals, particularly the Gaelic festival Samhain, which may have had pagan roots. Others think it began solely as a Christian holidays, being the vigil of All Hallow’s Day.
