International Sloth Day
This day was created by AIUNAU, a non-profit foundation dedicated to protecting all forms of wildlife. They had been working with the animals since 1996, and were appalled to find out how many are killed each year. The day was established in November 2010 as a way of helping people get to know a little more about these creatures and keep them from going entirely extinct.
World Statistics Day
World Statistics Day was celebrated firstly in 2010 to provide a day when the global statistical community can come together. In 2015, the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 69/282, in which it designated 20 October 2015 as the second World Statistics Day and decided to celebrate the Day every 5 years. The theme this year is “Connecting the world with data we can trust”. This reflects on the importance of trust, authoritative data, innovation and the public good in national statistical systems.
