Moldova Independence Day

Today commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 after the Parliament of Republic of Moldova voted to do so. It is a public holiday, and the President gives a public speech, and officials lay flowers at the Stephen the Great Monument. A concert is organised at the Great National Assembly Square. Every 5 years a military parade is held in the centre of Chisinau.
