Uruguay Independence Day

Today is known as ‘Dia de la Independencia’, and is a public holiday marking Uruguay’s independence from Brazil on this day in 1825. Brazil gained control when it gained its independence from Portugal in 1822, but after a short rebellion, it lost control.
