Estonia Restoration of Independence Day
On this day in 1991 the Estonian Supreme Soviet, in agreement with the Estonian Committee, proclaimed Estonian independence from the Soviet Union. It is a public holiday.
World Mosquito Day
This day commemorates Sir Ronald Ross’ discovery in 1897 that female mosquitoes transmit malaria between humans. He declared shortly after his discovery that the day should be known as World Mosquito Day in the future.
