Gabon Independence Day

It is a public holiday on 16th and 17th August, following Assumption on the 15th to create a three day holiday. It marks the independence from France on this day in 1960. The French arrived in the region in the early 19th century. It officially occupied it in 1885 and in 1910 it became one of the four colonies of French Equatorial Africa. In 1958 it voted to become an autonomous republic within the French Community, and happened in 1960.

Indonesia Independence Day

It is a national holiday commemorating the anniversary of the Indonesia’s Proclamation of Independence on 17th August 1945. It was made a national holiday in 1953. Ceremonies and festive events are held, as well as flag hoisting, local games and neighbourhood competitions, patriotic and cultural parades. There is a National Independence Day Ceremony live from the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, broadcast on all Indonesian national television channels. They also show patriotic songs, nationalistic-themed films, advertisements and talk shows.

Bolivia Flag Day

On this day in 1825, Bolivia adopted its first national flag, 11 days after independence from Spain was proclaimed.
