Yorkshire Day
Yorkshire Day is to promote the county of Yorkshire in England. It was celebrated in 1975, by the Yorkshire Ridings Society as a protest movement against the local government re-organisation of 1974. This date was already the Battle of Minden, and also the anniversary of the emancipation of slaves in the British Empire in 1834, for which a Yorkshire MP William Wilberforce, had campaigned for.
Benin Independence Day
Benin used to be called the Republic of Dahomey and ruled by France. In 1958 France granted autonomy to the Republic, and it gained full independence on 1st August 1960, the president being Hubert Maga.
Swiss National Day
Today is the national holiday of Switzerland. The date is from the date of the Federal Charter of 1291, Pacte du Grutil, which was placed in early August when three Alpine cantons (Schwyz, Uri and Unterwald) swore the oath of confederation”, an action which later came to be regarded as the founding of the country. It has been an official holiday since 1994.
