Olavsoka
Olavsoka is the biggest Summer festival in the Faroe Islands, and considered the national holiday of the country along with Flagday. It is celebrated for several days but the day itself is on 29th July. The literal meaning of the day is Saint Olaf’s Wake, which is from Saint Olaf’s death at teh Battle of Stiklestad in 1030.
They celebrate on the following dates:
27th July – Concert
28th July – Procession and Opening
28th July – Boat race
29th July – Procession and cantata
International Tiger Day
It is an annual celebration to raise awareness for tiger conservation. The aim of the day is to promote a global system for protecting the natural habitats of tigers and to raise public awareness and support for tiger conservation issues.
