St Swithin’s Day

It is St. Swithin’s Day on 15th July, which is also called St Swithun’s Day. This day, according to folkore, determines what the weather for the next 40 days will be. If it rains on this day, then 40 days of rain will follow, while a fair day indicates 40 days of fine weather. This follows from when St Swithin, the bishop of Winchester from 852 to 862, had his body moved inside the cathedral after being buried outside on 15th July 971, causing a great storm.
