Today celebrates the day Bahamas gained independence from Great Britain on 10th July 1973, after 5 years of seeking independence. They joined the Commonwealth of Nations on the same day.
The festivities for the day include everything from fireworks to food and music and dancing too across a variety of islands. Many government officials make official statements on this day.
